WE MUST SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF CORRUPTION WITH OUR OWN RESOURCES - FOR THIS WE DO NOT NEED BRUSSELS BUT STRONG POLITICAL WILL ON THE PART OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THE OPPOSITION
26.01.2017.
The statement regarding Croatia by Carl Dolan, Executive Director of the Brussels branch of the NGO, Transparency International, in light of the results of the 2016 Corruption Perceptions Index, is inappropriate, damaging, outright hypocritical and degrading for all Croatian citizens as well as those who wish to invest in Croatia.
’It is utterly shameful and degrading to label Croatia the ‘New Face of Corruption in Europe.’ The problem of corruption in Croatia cannot be solved in Brussels nor can representatives of foreign NGOs point to any flaws.
Such statements can only cause irreparable damage and be very dangerous for Croatian citizens and entrepreneurs who make an honest living from their work, as well as foreign investors and those who have nowhere to go and have no wish to leave Croatia.
The problem of corruption in Croatia can be solved by real political will and commitment by the Government and Opposition because corruption is the result of greed and is not linked to left or right political ideology.
Such political will has been lacking in Croatia and it is high time for this to change.
It is also high time for the Berlin Headquarters of Transparency International, a German NGO, to seriously deal with how this NGO itself operates and the level of transparency within its own organisation as well as to work on the quality of its own personnel, in order to properly and consistently implement the values and principles which it purports to advocate.
This is the real fight against corruption in the world today. Croatia shall solve the problem of corruption because it is in its own interests to do so and with its own resources. said Davorka Budimir, President of Transparency International Croatia.
